Removeable Partial Dentures: Your Introduction to Them
[ssba]If you are missing one or several teeth, then you may be looking for an alternative or two to improve your smile and allow you to feel confident about yourself again. Removeable partial dentures may be the right choice for you and they work in a way that will allow you to enjoy life and smile with confidence again. Removeable partial dentures are replacement teeth that have been attached to a pink plastic base that mimics the look of your natural gums. Depending on what type of needs you have, your dentures can be customized to meet them.
If you have teeth that need additional support to be able to secure the partials in place, you may receive crowns over those teeth. You can even choose partial dentures that have precision attachments, but these types of options do cost most, however, they look better.
When you come into our Reno, NV office for a consultation, Dr. Song will discuss all of your options with you and talk to you about what will work best for your situation.
What You Can Expect When You Receive New Partial Dentures
When you first receive your dentures, you may notice that they feel a bit awkward and this is normal. It will take some time for you to become familiar and acquainted with them, but do not let this worry you. Soon enough, you will be able to wear your dentures without any problems.
When you receive your dentures, you should follow ALL of the instructions that Dr. Song gives you. You want to care for them properly and make sure you put them in your mouth correctly or else they may wear down faster than plan.
Dr. Cho will teach you how to put your dentures into your mouth and how to remove them. It will take some practice, so practice often until you get the hang of how to do it. Your dentures should fit with ease and you should never have to force them into place. If you think you need to force them, stop what you are doing as forcing them can cause them to bend or break.
Sometimes, if the denture places too much pressure in a single spot, you will experience some soreness, but it will go away over time. If the soreness persists, you should let Dr. Song know and come into our Reno office. We will readjust the dentures, so that they fit comfortably and do not cause you any other problems.
Partial dentures CAN be removed whenever you need to take them out, but do not avoid proper care steps due to a lack of time, as this can ruin them.
